2020 Parent Volunteer Agreement

MISSION: GTST is a 501(3)(c) non-profit recreational swim team competing within the West Houston Aquatic League (WHALe). The team is led by parent volunteers and a paid coaching staff. GTST is a summer swim team; its mission is to provide recreational and competitive youth swimmers with an opportunity to enhance personal fitness, improve swim stroke technique, cultivate a sense of teamwork, make friends, and have fun!

Swimmers bring their best attributes to GTST – and one of those is YOU! The Parents of the GTST are the most important people needed to run a swim meet and other GTST activities during our short summer swim season GTST has a great reputation for meets that run smoothly and that is only accomplished by having our wonderful parents working at each meet.

Parent Volunteer Requirements – How It Works:

GTSTs hope is that you will view your volunteer obligation as an opportunity to serve and support your children; help their friends and teammates to have a wonderful experience and the opportunity to participate, and to carry on a tradition of excellence and hospitality that GTST members and their families are known for!

Each swimmer (family) must provide a parent/guardian to assist in the general operation of the swim meets, both home and away, at least 4 times (3.5 points) during the swim season. This includes volunteering at 3 meets PLUS volunteering at either Time Trials or Team Party.

We have found it necessary to implement a volunteer system, consistent with neighboring swim teams within our WHALe organization. The GTST will be asking for a $400.00 volunteer commitment from each family at the time of registration, the cost to find a paid employee to cover your commitment.  If for some reason your family is unable to fulfill your volunteer requirements, the monetary volunteer commitment will be assessed AFTER THE FIRST MISSED DUTY. A refund can be requested once the duty has been made up and the remaining duties completed. Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed and considered by the Steering Committee, upon your proactive request only.

Volunteer Duties are listed in detail on the website. You are not limited to choosing the same volunteer duty each time; please note, however, that you are not guaranteed placement in the duty of your choosing although we will make every effort possible to honor your request.

Any swimmer making MOC or ASM will be expected to additionally volunteer at those meets.

We greatly appreciate all our wonderful parents that have volunteered for many years and continue to provide such awesome service to our team. GTST wants to maintain our reputation for hosting well-run meets with kind, considerate and helpful volunteers. We know that with your assistance our swim team will have one of our best seasons yet!
